Purge of state-owned corporation boards will damage morale and expertise
Media release: 2 May 2013
The O'Farrell government is pursuing an ideological war against unions and public sector workers that will rob the boards of state-owned corporations of expertise and employees of a voice in the strategic direction of their enterprises, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye
Dr Kaye said: "Treasurer Mike Baird is purging the boards of state-owned corporations of union-nominated and staff-elected members.
"Public sector employees will be denied a right to have a say in the strategic direction of their workplace. This is a sure-fire way to disengage public sector workers and set them against management.
"Staff representatives bring a specific expertise to these boards that Mike Baird wants to eradicate.
"The perspective of both unions and staff will become a victim of the Coalition's war on public sector workers and their representative organisations, despite the valuable contribution they have made.
"Employee morale and the quality of the decision will be damaged.
"The Greens call on the Christian Democrats and the Shooters and Fishers Party to join with us in rejecting this destructive move," Dr Kaye said.
