Victorian Jumps Racing claims its third victim, Mikiyama: Greens MP joins
the protest

Who: Sue Pennicuik MLC, Victorian Greens Animal Welfare spokesperson
When: Saturday 22 June, 11.30am
Where: Flemington Racecourse (Main Entrance – Epsom Rd Entrance)

Victorian Greens Animal Welfare spokesperson Sue Pennicuik MLC will join
protesters at Flemington Racecourse tomorrow to call on the government to
ban this cruel and barbaric sport.

Tragically, Mikiyama fell at the Warrnambool trails last week, and was
killed over the weekend bringing deaths on Victorian Jumps Racing this
year to three. This follows six deaths last year and eleven deaths in
2011.

"This cruel and unnecessary activity is a blight on Victoria," Ms
Pennicuik said. "The RSPCA, Animals Australia, Animal Liberation and the
Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses oppose jumps racing as do the
majority of Victorians."

"Jumps racing has long been banned in every other state, except South
Australia, on the grounds of cruelty. It would not be able to continue in
South Australia either if it was banned in Victoria," Ms Pennicuik said.
