AUSTRALIAN GREENS WELCOME NTEU SUPPORT
Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne has welcomed the NTEU's announcement they will be campaigning to ensure the Greens maintain balance of power and to help keep Adam Bandt in Melbourne to stop Tony Abbott taking total control of Parliament.
"NTEU will be campaigning on issues important to higher education and their members - they will not be making any donations to the Greens, or any individual candidate," Senator Milne said.
"The Greens have been the strongest supporters in Parliament of higher education and protecting collective bargaining rights and have vehemently opposed Labor's university funding cuts.
"The NTEU campaign will put higher education and its importance to Australia's future economy and society front and centre of the election campaign."
Greens Deputy Leader and Federal Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt MP said:
"I strongly welcome the support of the NTEU for my campaign in Melbourne and the Greens' campaign to retain balance of power in the Senate," Senator Bandt said.
"This decision reflects the level of community concern about Labor's uni cuts.
"The NTEU's support will have a decisive impact on the election, particularly in Melbourne where concern about Labor's $2.3 billion cut to university funding and student support is so strong."
