Bernardi’s continued attack on gays and lesbians demeans Australia

It is unacceptable that Cory Bernardi has continued his attack on gay and lesbian Australians by again linking the love they feel for each other to bestiality, the Australian Greens have said.

“Linking the love that thousands of Australian couples share to bestiality is disgraceful,” the Greens’ LGBTI spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“Cory Bernardi is the voice of the Liberal Party in South Australia as their lead Senate candidate.

“South Australians will be shaking their heads today and many will be having a second thought about voting Liberal.

“Moderate members of the Liberal Party who want to distance themselves from Senator Bernardi’s comments can do so by voting in support of the Greens’ international same-sex marriage bill on Thursday.

“These comments demean all Australians with friends and family in loving gay relationships.

“The last time he espoused this type of ignorant hate speech Cory Bernardi was forced to resign as Tony Abbott’s Parliamentary Secretary. It seems he hasn’t learnt anything since the last time he was condemned by his own colleagues.”
