Statement on Pauline Hanson’s election campaign announcement.

“Pauline Hanson clearly intends to play the race card in this election and that has no place in modern day Australia,” the Greens’ immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“I am calling on Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott and all MPs to reject xenophobia and the gutter politics of racism and join the Greens in standing up for Australia’s proud history of diversity.

“Over the course of this election we will see the anti-immigration brigade go into overdrive whipping up fear, hatred and racism once again.

“The Greens care for all Australians and will reject hatred and racial vilification in all its forms.”
