Australian Government should come clean on China's cyber attacks
The Australian Greens have called on the Gillard Government to be more open and upfront about the threat and extent of Chinese cyber attacks.
>
"The USA and British governments are open with their people about the Chinese government's illegal cyber hacking activities," Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said today.
>
"The latest security scandal involving the ASIO building underscores the need for the Australian government to take a new approach.
>
"We need a full independent inquiry into what happened with the ASIO building and we need new honesty from the Prime Minister and her Ministers about China's cyber crimes.
>
"We are living in the Asian century. Our relationship with China must be built on mutual respect and a willingness to be upfront about the tensions in the relationship as well as the strengths. Failure to stand up to China on security or human rights is not in Australia's long term interests."
