Trees still under threat on National Tree Day

NSW Greens MP and Environment Spokesperson, Dr Mehreen Faruqi, will spend National Tree Day, Sunday 28th of July 2013, in Wolli Creek Regional Park highlighting the continued threat of inappropriate development to our natural environment.

"National Tree Day is an opportunity for Sydneysiders to get outdoors and enjoy our natural environment.

"Wolli Creek National Park is a success story of bush regeneration that is now threatened by the M5 East Tunnel duplication. This park provides an essential recreation area and green space for the people of Wolli Creek and our native flora and fauna. National Tree Day is an opportunity to reflect on the need to conserve our ecosystem, as well as expand it.

"I am proud to work with grassroots environmental protection groups, such as the Wolli Creek Preservation Society, to protect our trees and our environment for future generations. These natural areas are too precious to lose but too often threatened by short sighted policies ", Dr Faruqi added.
