SA needs sustainable, smart investment in Holden

Future investment of public money into Holden and other vehicle producers should be linked to job guarantees and electric car production, the Australian Greens have said.

"South Australia could be the electric car capital of Australia," South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

"Handouts of government money need to support the creation of the electric cars of the future and need to come with rules that keep jobs in South Australia.

"State and Federal Governments need to assist further by setting ambitious minimum targets for electric cars in their vehicle fleets.

"Clean, green, electric cars are the automotive industry of tomorrow and they're the cars that Australians want to buy.

"Investing both money and skills to make South Australia an electric car centre makes sense now and will pay dividends in the long term."
