Greens call for better suicide prevention in South West communities

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

'"More needs to be done to reduce suicides in the South West," said Giz Watson.

"There is evidence from many South West communities that people aren't receiving timely help," she added.

"Suicide rates in the Bunbury jurisdiction alone have increased from 13 in 2009-2010 to 29 in 2011-2012," she said.

"Waits of weeks or months for a voluntary patient to have an appointment with a psychologist are unacceptable, putting the patient at risk of self-harm and impacting on their families" said Giz Watson.
