Greens looking forward to Sydney by-election result

Media release: 27 October 2012

Greens candidate for Sydney Chris Harris thanked the people of Sydney for
listening to the issues he raised during the campaign and congratulated the
other candidates on the effort they put in.

Commenting as voting came to an end in the by-election caused by the forced
resignation of long-time independent member Clover Moore, Mr Harris said:
"I have been yet again humbled by the preparedness of the Inner Sydney
community to engage with political issues and think deeply about their
choices.

"No matter what the outcome, I am pleased to have been able to bring a
number of important issues to the table.

"Both on the polling booths and in the lead up to today ,there was a lot of
enthusiasm for our campaign focus on inner-Sydney public schools, cuts to
the education and health budgets, the mates' deal for the new casino and
the O'Farrell government's plans to exclude the community from development
assessments.

" Alex Greenwich and the Liberals and their teams campaigned with
dedication.

"Clover Moore held this seat and its predecessor for 24 years and she has
very publicly anointed Alex Greenwich as her successor. Her well-oiled
campaign machine was out in force for the independent candidate on the
polling booths today.

"I look forward to finding out the judgement of the voters tonight," Mr
Harris said.
