Will cyclists be dudded in train shutdown?
Alternative services for bikes must be provided when much of Adelaide's train system is closed for project works next year.
The Greens have made the call on Ride to Work Day, an annual event designed to increase the number of cyclists commuting to work.
"It is essential that Adelaide's cyclists are not ignored when Adelaide's trains are out of action for large chunks of next year," said Greens Leader and keen cyclist Mark Parnell.
"Many cyclists take their bike on the train as part of their regular travel. For example, someone could ride to Noarlunga station from their home and then hop on a train into the city. Or a cyclist could ride down from Belair and catch the train back home.
"So far, there has been no mention of alternative services for these commuters when the trains are shutdown. All we've heard about are bus services.
"As more and more people get into cycling, the State Government must not ignore this large section of the commuting public.
"The Greens are calling on the Minister for Transport Services, Chloe Fox, to explain exactly what services will be in place for cyclists when Adelaide's trains are shutdown next year," he said.
Mark Parnell will be attending the Ride to Work Breakfast this morning in Victoria Square between 7am and 9am
