Mark Scott, don’t go Van Gogh on Radio National
Australian Greens communications spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam. Tuesday 9 October 2012.
The Australian Greens have called on ABC Managing Director Mark Scott to keep the full complement of specialist programming on Radio National.
“Drama programmes alone are enjoyed by 40,000 Australians on Radio National every week. Their interests vary and will be further limited by the proposed cuts,” said Australian Greens communications spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam.
“Before Mr Scott even knows what resources the ABC may win in the next triennial budget round, he is hacking off some of Australia’s most innovative and interesting radio shows.
“Radio plays, book readings, and the much loved Night Air face the axe.
“The Australian Greens fully support the campaign efforts underway to convince the ABC top brass to reconsider the redundancies, and will be raising the issue with Mark Scott at Senate Estimates next week.”
