Government agencies including VicForests, the EPA, Linking Melbourne
Authority and Southern Rural Water will be called before a parliamentary
inquiry, if a motion by the Greens succeeds in state parliament this
Wednesday.
"I'd like to ask the supposedly commercial agency VicForests why it should
continue to exist if it can't make a profit destroying publicly owned
native forests," said Victorian Greens Leader Greg Barber
"Linking Melbourne Authority claims to have done research on traffic
projections and the need for the East West tunnel. I'd like to see that
information out in the open."
"Southern Rural Water was clobbered by the Auditor-General two years ago,
who said they were issuing too many bore licences without knowing how much
groundwater was available. I want to know if anything has changed since
then,"
" The EPA is sitting on information about the pollution from the power
station and coal mine and the impacts on human health. They've refused to
release it under the Freedom of Information Act, so I'm calling them to
explain it in person," *
"If the Baillieu Government doesn't support this motion, it means they are
scared of scrutiny; these agencies have questions to answer," said Mr
Barber
The Greens motion will be moved, debated and go to a vote on Weds 10
October.
