WHAT: Greens inspect Bike Accident Blackspots reported by Ballarat
cyclists
WHEN: 11am, Thursday 4 October 2012
WHERE: Grant Street, Cnr Anderson Street East
WHO: Victorian Greens Leader Greg Barber and Ballarat cyclists
PHOTO OPP: Greg Barber and others on bikes, bike lanes with hazards, bike
lanes that disappear into traffic
"The Greens launched the Bike Blackspot map a few months ago. Since then,
several hundred people across Victoria have put their bike issues on the
map and there are some doozies in Ballarat."
"Premier Bailleu has cut the bike budget to zero. We want to bring it
back. A bit of attention to bike lanes will encourage people to get out
of their cars and onto their bikes."
"If you ride a bike, you can use the iPhone app to photograph the good,
the bad and the ugly then upload it straight to the Bike Blackspot map.
You can also make a report via our website. Each report is sent to the
appropriate Ministers and it also gets the Greens campaigning with you,
here in Ballarat as well as in State Parliament."
"In the last twelve years, there have been 248 reported bicycle accidents
in City of Ballarat, with one fatality and 65 serious injuries."
