Greens MLC Supports a Swift Inquiry of Canning Council

In response to the decision of the Local Government Minister to suspend Canning Council, South Metropolitan Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren called for a swift inquiry to resolve the matters raised in the recent report.

"People living in the City of Canning have a right to democratic representation, especially with council amalgamations looming on the horizon."

"The important work of local government doesn't stop, so an elected council should be restored as soon as the inquiry is completed."

"The report certainly raised serious concerns which need to be promptly addressed."

"The circumstances described in report surrounding the withdrawal of the City of Canning from the SMRC were particularly disquieting," Ms MacLaren said.
