Media Alert: Lynn MacLaren to Join Human Chain across Stirling Bridge 


Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren, spokesperson for animal welfare, is joining the Human Chain across the Stirling Bridge
Against Live Export at 10:00 am Sunday, 18 November. 

In a dramatic visual display, participants dressed in black from all walks of life will declare their support for an end to the live export trade. 

"The Greens call for the live export trade to be replaced with a chilled and packaged meat export industry based in Western Australia. The financial returns currently enjoyed by importing countries would return to Australia," said Ms MacLaren.

"It's clear, from yet another expose on the failures of the ESCAS regulatory scheme, that Australia cannot meet animal welfare guidelines in live export. A local industry right here in Western Australia can. 

"The livestock sector is disrupted. It's about time the State Government responded to that," concluded Ms MacLaren.

Australian Greens animal welfare spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said, "The public is distressed over live export cruelty, and they want the trade to end. The government needs to respond - not with half-baked inquiries, but a comprehensive plan to stop exporting livestock for consumption and process the meat in Australia."
