Funding available for community building projects

Greens MP Jamie Parker is encouraging local organisations to apply for funding for community building initiatives as part of this year's Community Building Partnerships Program.

"Last year I successfully facilitated funding for a range of fantastic local projects including renovating Leichhardt Public School's canteen, improving facilities for people with disabilities, upgrading sporting facilities and refurbishing women's centres, childcare centres, youth refuges and more," Mr Parker said.

As the State Member for Balmain, Mr Parker will provide comments and recommendations regarding the suitability and priority of eligible proposals.

"I look forward to supporting a number of worthy projects this year and I'm particularly encouraging applications from organisations which haven't applied before," Mr Parker said.

"This is a unique opportunity for organisations to gain funding for community building initiatives, no matter how small – from the purchase of bowling machines for the local cricket club to larger scale renovations and refurbishments.

"This year I'll also be asking community members to visit www.jamieparker.org.au to vote for their favourite project. Voting will be taken into consideration as an indicator of community support," Mr Parker said.

Important dates:
30 October 2012: Applications close
November 2012 – February 2012: Assessment of eligibility of projects and organisations
March 2013: Announcement of successful projects
