Greens' Gender and Sexuality spokesperson, Tammy Franks MLC, today welcomed the statement from SA premier Jay Weatherill in support of the Greens' Marriage Equality Bill currently before the SA Parliament.
The Premier's comments in front of a packed Parliament House steps at an Equal Love rally today were enthusiastically welcomed by the large crowd.
"Eight years after the federal Parliament and then-Prime Minister Howard moved us two steps back from marriage equality, Premier Weatherill's words have moved South Australia one step forward," said Ms Franks.
"I welcome the Premier's support for my marriage equality bill without qualification or handballing this as only a federal issue.
"I welcome other state MP's, whether Labor, Liberal or Independent, to sign onto my bill as co-sponsors and look forward to support from other state MPs.
"I will bring my bill to a vote in the Upper House in the next session of sitting and am confident it will be strongly supported there.
"SA is ideally placed to join Tasmania in leading the way to marriage equality in Australia," she concluded.
