Greens Animal Welfare spokesperson Tammy Franks MLC will attend and speak at the official launch of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and the Body Shop's Humane Chain /Stand Up for Animals campaign tomorrow, Saturday August 4th.
The Stand Up for Animals campaign is a unique collaboration between WSPA and the Body Shop, well known for its cruelty-free ethical stance on issues such as testing its products on animals.
The launch commences at 1pm the Body Shop's Rundle Mall store (adjacent to the Mall's Balls) and will also feature Senator Nick Xenophon in attendance in support of the campaign.
The aim of the campaign is to get 80,000 Australians at the Body Shop's 80 stores to sign "I Stand Up for Animals" pledges on small cardboard cut-out figures. These signed pledges will then be sent to their representative in the Federal Parliament, reminding the government that the live export issue hasn't gone away and that Australians are still very concerned by the cruelty inherent in the trade.
The vast majority of Australians are opposed to the live export trade with ever-increasing numbers of people becoming aware there are better, more humane ways to sell our livestock and ones that value add to the Australian economy, rather than exporting Aussie jobs.
