What: Sunshine residents are taking a stand to save their local park from
being sold off for residential development. They are gathering for a
community BBQ in the park and will call on the government to stand by
their election commitment* and preserve the land as public open space.
When: 2pm - 4pm Sunday 30th October.
Where: Park at end Fraser Street, Sunshine.
Photo opportunity: Local families gathered in the park, kids playing,
speakers, live band - Buddy England & the Viqueens.
"I walk through this park every day with my two young kids and it's the
place where we meet family and friends" said local resident Liz Dalgleish.
"I want the park to stay so my kids can continue to have somewhere
outdoors to play but it's also where I connect with my neighbours" said Ms
Dalgliesh.
"The government was elected on a promise to protect existing parks and
open space from development*. The community is asking them to uphold their
promise and save this open space for the community" said Greens MLC
Colleen Hartland.
"If this park on the Kororoit Creek goes, what's to stop the government
chipping away at other parks on the creek and selling them off"
"This park on the Kororoit Creek is a treasured natural place amidst our
busy urban lives. It should not be sold off by the government for their
own financial gain" said Ms Hartland.
The Minister for Water, the Minister for Planning, and Brimbank City
Council Administrators have all been invited to attend.
