An Auditor-General's report released today shows that new suburbs are
missing out on maternity services, says Greens MLC Colleen Hartland.*
"The report shows that in growth areas, women have poorer access to
maternity services, including higher fees and delays in antenatal
services. In some areas, the service is so bad women are forced to pay
several thousand dollars for their care or travel to another health
service. And we're talking about a basic health care need," said Colleen
Hartland.
"I'm not surprised by this report. People living in the outer suburbs tell
me they move there to have a family, but there aren't enough maternity
services."
"They pay the same taxes as everyone else. They should get the services."
"The Baillieu government needs to understand that expanding the growth
areas means more than just putting houses in a paddock," said Ms Hartland.
