4 October 2011 -- for immediate release

Greens MP announces grants for local organisations

Are you involved in a community organisation? Do you have an idea for a project to improve your local community?

Greens MP Jamie Parker will help to facilitate funding for local organisations and Councils through the Community Building Partnership program (CBP) administered through the NSW government.

"I am thrilled to be involved with this program. It's a great opportunity for community organisations to gain funding for community building initiatives.

"I particularly encourage community groups who haven't previously applied for funding through this program. I'll be looking for well planned projects which will enhance community infrastructure and improve our existing services.

Not-for-profit organisations must register by 24 October and submit project applications by 31 October.

Projects will be assessed against criteria including the enhancement or construction of community infrastructure, the creation of employment and encouragement of participation in services or activities, and the organisation's capacity to deliver on the project.

Mr Parker will provide comments and recommendations on the suitability and priority of eligible proposals. He will also consult with communities and assess applications according to community need, along with the Independent Review Committees.

"From December I'll ask community members to visit jamieparker.org.au and vote for their favourite project. Voting will be taken into consideration as an indicator of community support.
