Parliament agrees to release Shenhua Watermark documents
26 May 2011
Greens MP and mining spokesperson, Jeremy Buckingham, has been successful in getting the NSW Parliament to 'call for papers' relating to the Shenhua Watermark coal mine proposal. All documents relating to the government's correspondence with company since it entered caretaker mode on 3 March 2011 will now be produced within 14 days.
"There is a lot of confusion and concern in the community as to where the Shenhua Watermark coal project is up to," said Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham.
"At one stage the government said it was under Part 3A, then that it had been rejected as Part 3A. The documents released should let the public know what's been going on.
"The Greens want the whole process to be transparent and getting these documents released is a step in that direction.
"The Greens oppose the Shenhua Watermark coal project because it will destroy valuable land and water resources and the damage burning the coal produced will do to the climate," he said.
