Adelaide Oval must not be car-dependent
The Greens strongly support bringing footy back to the city, but remain unconvinced on the need to turn a large chunk of the Northern Parklands over to a winter weekend car park.
"We shouldn't be trying to replicate AAMI Stadium in the city," said Greens Parliamentary Leader Mark Parnell.
"It makes no sense to embed car dependency into the Adelaide Oval redevelopment.
"Shifting footy to the city is a once in a generation opportunity for a major transformation from car travel to public transport.
"If the Adelaide Oval redevelopment business case relies on thousands of car parks on the Parklands then it's a flawed model.
"Instead, let's maximise footy's move to the city by significantly transforming public transport so that it is faster, safer, more frequent and more reliable.
"Then it will swiftly become the natural transport choice for Adelaide Oval," he said.
