You don't integrate public transport by selling it off – Greens

Greens MP and transport spokesperson Cate Faehrmann says government
reform of Sydney Ferries should be focused on improved frequency,
efficiency and capacity, rather than increasing involvement from the
private sector.

"The government says private tendering for operating the fleet will
lead to better services, but I'll believe that when I see it," said Ms
Faehrmann.

"More likely we'll see pressure on the government to increase fares,
cut staff and reduce frequency in order to keep the network profitable
for private shareholders.

"If the new government wants integrated transport and planning, why
further fragment Sydney's public transport system?

"The government's priority appears to be the short term budget bottom
line. The government needs to explain how this 'franchise' is going to
improve services," said Ms Faehrmann.
