Greens oppose Lennon's bid for Barangaroo seat

Greens MP David Shoebridge has labelled proposals for a Unions NSW representative to replace Clover Moore on the board of the Barangaroo Delivery authority as outrageous.

"To ignore the close links between the leadership of Unions NSW and the State Parliamentary Labor party would be to ignore reality, said Mr Shoebridge, Greens spokesperson for Planning.

"The resignation of Lord Mayor Clover Moore in response to calls by many of her own Council and the community make it clear that the current process has descended into a shambles.

"The latest developments coupled with the fact that a former senior executive of Lend Lease heads up the Barangaroo Development Authority must raise serious concerns with the process.

"It is time for the State Government to transfer the planning powers for Barangaroo to the Central City Planning Authority, a panel which has a steady track record of responsible development assessment for the city. It is also a body which has the experience and knowledge to assess the development in relation to the whole of the city, not simply as if it were a stand-alone project.

"In this, as in so many other developments, the Government appears more interested in delivering for a select few than in making decisions which are truly in the long term interests of Sydney," said Mr Shoebridge.
