Improved cycleways and pedestrian access will help commuters and
business

Sydney's congestion problems can only be solved by a combination of
improved public transport, cycleways and better pedestrian access,
says NSW Greens MP and spokesperson for transport, Cate Faehrmann.

"Any measure that helps people out of their cars to start walking,
cycling or using public transport is a good thing," Ms Faehrmann said.

"Congestion takes a huge toll on business in NSW. I hope the Premier
and the Lord Mayor can come good on this promise to get more commuters
out of their cars.

"Bike sales have increased by more than 30% in the last five years –
this is a lot more people riding on our roads. In NSW in 2009, there
were 14 cycling fatalities, 10 of which involved a motor vehicle.
Dedicated cycleways are the key to making people feel safe on their
bikes.

"Cycleways are changing the way we think about roads. Cyclists deserve
the same infrastructure support as motorists.

"The Greens agree that it's time for the light rail infrastructure
that was misguidedly ripped-out last century to be returned.

"We know what a huge difference quality public transport makes to
people's lives, to the climate and for the long-term liveability of
our cities," Ms Faehrmann said.
