Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has described today's state government
announcement of $21 million towards the Truck Action Plan as "lame".
"$21 million won't even touch the sides," said Colleen Hartland
"The Plan is budgeted at $380 million. It's the expensive bits that would
take the trucks off the roads - that is, the big projects in Yarraville
and Tottenham. The $10 million spent so far seems to have been blown on
glossy brochures saying 'It's all part of the plan'. Nothing is actually
happening."
"I can't believe they've actually committed to widening Moreland and
Whitehall Streets to funnel more trucks onto Francis Street, Somerville
Road and Williamstown Road in Yarraville, while failing to commit to the
parts of the Truck Action plan in Yarraville and Tottenham that actually
will get trucks off residential streets."
"The Truck Action Plan is one of the few government road plans that the
community actually largely support. I think the government is very unwise
to make an announcement that they are not committed to fully funding the
Truck Action Plan ahead of the Westlink tunnel and freeway nightmare,"
said Ms Hartland
"I was expecting a Truck Action Plan announcement from the government
during the election period. But I thought it would be a better one than
we got today."
