MEDIA CONFERENCE: Greens, melanoma survivors and Melanoma Patients' Australia join to call for a ban on solariums

What: 	A Greens motion to ban sun beds because of the risk of melanoma will be debated in Parliament on Tuesday 11 May.

Since Claire Oliver's death there has been some toughening of regulation of solariums, yet audits show many operators are still flouting the law.

There are growing calls for sun beds to be banned, with 40 deaths a year attributed to their use. 

People younger than 35 who visited a solarium increase their risk of developing melanoma by 98 per cent.

Campaigners are calling on Frank Sartor, the Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) to give serious consideration to banning sun beds to save people from melanoma.
