The Tasmanian Greens today called on Energy Minister David Llewellyn to
ensure that Hydro Tasmania does not use its monopoly powers to
discourage private sector investment into renewable energy projects in
Tasmania, following the revelation that the Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission (ACCC) is currently investigating Hydro Tasmania.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said Tasmania could have a fantastic future
as a renewable energy island but the State needs a level playing field
to attract private sector investment into appropriate renewable energy
projects.

"If Hydro Tasmania are found to be using their monopoly to discourage
private sector investment in renewable energy generation in Tasmania,
then the result will be higher electricity prices for Tasmanians," said
Mr McKim.

"We need a level playing field to encourage private sector investment
into appropriate renewable energy projects."
