Gunns should drop fraught lawsuit

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown will be speaking at a fundraiser for
the remaining Gunns20 defendants in Melbourne this evening.

"It's time for Gunns to drop the case. It's doing them no good and
certainly not the defendants either." 

"This trial, set down for 2 February 2010,  will be the first trial of a
case in which a major corporation has sued environmental activists."

"Legislation should be enacted, as it has in the ACT, to prevent the big
end of town silencing people who would otherwise engage in public debate
and protest," Senator Brown said.

There are six defendants remaining in the original Gunns 20 case, five
individuals and the Huon Valley Environment Centre.
