Greens Senator Hanson-Young holding doorstop press conference to respond
to Govt's backflip on Youth Allowance reform
11.00am TODAY in ADELAIDE
WHAT:
Senator Sarah Hanson-Young will respond to the Government's decision to
accommodate current gap year students working to qualify for Youth
Allowance as student income support at university next year.
The Greens will still move to amend the legislation to create a new
eligibility criterion for geographically disadvantaged young people
hoping to access higher education.
"The Government - especially this one, with its 'Education Revolution'
mantra - should not be looking for budget savings in the education
sector. At a time when students are paying more than ever for their
education, they should not be left carrying the can by the Government."

The current Senate Inquiry into Rural and Regional Access to Secondary
and Tertiary Education Opportunities was moved for by Senators
Hanson-Young and Nash in June.
