The Tasmanian Greens today challenged Premier David Bartlett to identify
who on his front or back bench would be capable of fulfilling the
crucial role of Health minister, in light of Lara Giddings' admission
that she is not committed to retaining it following the next state
election.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that Tasmanians deserve a Minister in
top gear for sustained periods of time in this critical portfolio,
rather than someone who is at best coasting in neutral, and at worst
scrambling to find reverse.

"The problem for David Bartlett is that there is nobody else on either
his front or back benches in whom he, or the Tasmanian people, would
have trust to take over this crucial responsibility."

"This example of the lack of depth on the government benches once again
demonstrates how the cutting of numbers in the Tasmanian Parliament is
directly impacting on service delivery to the Tasmanian people," Mr
McKim said.
