Greens and environmental groups will protest outside the 2009 NSW
Mineral Exploration & Investment Conference to call on the NSW
Government to halt the expansion of the coal industry to arrest climate
change.

The action will target Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Ian
Macdonald, a key Government driver of climate change, who is opening the
two day conference at 9:00am.

This action coincides with the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS)
being put to the vote in Federal Parliament. Protesters will call on
the Federal Government to scrap the CPRS and its billion dollar handouts
to the coal industry, and echo the Greens' call for 40% emission cuts by
2020.
