Greens concerned at lifting of scrutiny on foreign investors

The Australian Greens say they are concerned at changes to foreign
investment rules announced by the Treasurer Wayne Swan today.

Australian Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown said he was concerned about
the lifting of scrutiny of foreign investments between $10m. and $219m.
 
"The Greens are concerned that foreign takeovers up to $219 will simply
get waived through."

"If foreign investors are discouraged by scrutiny, one has to ask the
question why."

"The Greens will not support these regulations when they come before the
Senate in September, without a very careful look at the potential for
takeovers to be approved that are not really in Australia's interests."
