Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has responded to personal attacks by Planning
Minister Justin Madden, over her Motion to disallow his planning amendment
on the Whitten Oval development.

"I moved the motion because I believe in democratic process."

"The Minister taking away the planning authority from City of Maribyrnong
was dodgy from day one. He didn't follow the proper procedure. I would
question whether he was acting within his powers. He wasn't able to
answer my question in question time today. Now he's got no defence except
attacking me personally, and inaccurately."

"His allegations about us working with the Liberals are completely false.
For all I know, the Liberals will vote with the government, like they
usually do."

"The development didn't strike an impasse at Maribyrnong Council. It was
speeding ahead. Council had issued one permit, had committed a million
dollars to the project, and were working at full speed on the next permit
when the Minister intervened. Council were due to make their decision on
16 September. The Minister’s intervention delayed the project and created
uncertainty."

"Council were concerned about the local footy leagues, that were meant to
be given a new home in the Whitten Oval development. If my motion draws
attention to those issues, then that's a good thing. Nothing I've done
will delay the project," said Ms Hartland
