Fourth Seat Gives Greens ACT Stronghold - Brown

"Labor and Liberal Must Offer Constructive Ideas"

The Greens' Caroline le Couteur has won the fourth seat for the
party in the ACT Legislative Assembly, giving the Greens a new political
stronghold, says Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown.

"This is a new milestone for the Greens, and underscores the new
role of the Greens as Australia's third political force," Senator Brown
said.

"With both Labor and Liberal captured by vested interests like
the coal and logging industries, Australian voters are backing the
Greens' long-range vision for social justice, the environment and a new
Green economy."

"The Greens now have 26 seats in Australian Parliaments and it
is only a matter of time before we win seats in the House of
Representatives."

"ACT voters have elected an excellent team of Greens and it is
up to the Labor and Liberal Parties there to offer constructive ideas on
how best to share power," Senator Brown said.
