Campbell wrong to pass the buck on Epping rail line

Greens MP and transport spokesperson Lee Rhiannon says Transport Minister David Campbell should accept all responsibility for the construction problems with the Epping to Chatswood rail line.

"Transport Minister David Campbell must accept that ultimately the government is responsible for the quality of construction and the delays with this rail project," Ms Rhiannon said.

"It is immature of Mr Campbell to try pass the buck to the private sector.

"Mr Campbell's message is that if you contract essential public services to the private sector worth billions of dollars you can then wash your hands of the result.

"The NSW government is elected by the people to provide essential public services. 

"The problems with the Epping line are fairly and squarely the government's responsibility, whether it contracts out construction to the private sector or not. 

"Successive transport ministers have taken their eye off the ball when it comes to this project.

"The problems result from a failure to nurture a culture of commitment to excellence and thoroughness in transport planning. 

"The residents of northern Sydney have a right to feel angry at these persistent delays," Ms Rhiannon said.
