The Tasmanian Greens today called for the urgent relocation of three
residents of Murchison Street, Rosebery, after independent hair test
results on 22 year old Marsha Stejskal returned disturbing levels of
calcium, cobalt, copper, magnesium as well as high levels of the toxic
elements, lead and strontium.
Greens Shadow Health spokesperson Cassy O'Connor MP said it is now clear
that something is wrong in Rosebery and it is affecting people's
physical and mental health.
"The latest test results should set the alarm bells clanging even louder
for the Rosebery response team, and particularly the Health Department
and the Minister," Ms O'Connor said.
"While I appreciate this matter is being taken seriously by the response
team and particularly the Director of Public Health, we need to know as
a matter of urgency, what relationship exists between the heavy metals
found in the water seeping on to residents' properties, and the high
levels of metals and other toxic elements found in the latest test
results."
"Marsha Stejskal's test results are enough, in my book, to warrant
greater urgency in getting to the bottom of this toxic mystery."
"The Greens also believe it is well and truly time to help those
stressed out residents, whose mental and physical health is being
impacted, relocate to an environment away from the potential
contamination source at no financial cost to themselves."
"The wellbeing of the residents must be the priority concern," Ms
O'Connor said.
