The Tasmanian Greens today in Parliament continued to pressure David
Bartlett to honour commitments he made, when he first became Premier, to
end support for the pulp mill by November 30th if "real finance" and
"real progress" had not been made.

Greens Shadow Pulp Mill spokesperson Kim Booth MP said that although he
is very disappointed that the Premier has backed away from his
commitment, Tasmanians are now understanding that Premier Bartlett is
prepared to say one thing if he thinks it makes a good story, but then
do another.

"I asked the Premier to stick to his words quoted in The Australian on
the 1st of July this year, when he is reported as saying that "the
Government has drawn the line in the sand", but he refused to meet that
commitment, and instead attempted to dodge and weasel his way out of the
issue," Mr Booth said. [i]

"Similarly when asked to detail the withdrawing of the pulp mill permits
as he is also reported as promising in the Australian report, Mr
Bartlett just ducked for cover."

"It is now clear that Premier Bartlett will leave the door open for
Gunns but slam it shut in the face of all Tasmanians who are desperate
to see the end of this polluting proposal and get on with investing in
the sunrise industries that will drive Tasmania into the future," Mr
Booth said.
