The Tasmanian Greens today wished former Greens Leader Peg Putt all the
best in her latest life-challenge which sees her join the Wilderness
Society's international climate change team.

Greens Opposition Leader Nick McKim MP said that Ms Putt's new role is a
continuation of her life-long commitment to sustainability and to the
protection of Australia's high conservation value forests as a forests
and climate change campaigner.

"This is great news for Peg and for Australia's forests, and I have no
doubt that she will play a crucial role in progressing a global
framework to protect forests for their carbon values," Mr McKim said.

"It is no surprise to those who know Peg that she did not rest on her
laurels for long following her retirement from State politics, and it
was only a matter of time before she rejoined the campaign fray doing
what she does best - advocating for the environment and for future
generations."

"On behalf of all Greens' members and supporters I wish Peg all the best
in her exciting and crucial new role."

Mr McKim acknowledged the need for Ms Putt to resign her membership of
the Tasmanian Greens in accordance with the employment policy of the
Wilderness Society, which he said demonstrated the absurdity of
government and timber industry claims that the organisations of the
Greens and TWS are somehow linked.
