New allegations - call for Rees to expand inquiry into Tony Stewart
In light of new allegations about former NSW Labor Minister Tony Stewart, Greens MP Lee Rhiannon has called on Premier Nathan Rees to expand the current inquiry into Mr Stewart.
“Premier Rees needs to work on raising parliamentary standards and his willingness to conduct a thorough investigation into all complaints about Mr Stewart will be vital to achieving this,” Ms Rhiannon said.
“The current inquiry chaired by barrister Chris Ronalds SC, is restricted to the behaviour of Mr Stewart at the October 22 Garvan Institute dinner.
“The complaints about Tony Stewart are not limited to the one issue before the inquiry.
“My office has received worrying information about Mr Stewart's behaviour that should be investigated by this inquiry.
“The Premier's own reputation will be damaged if he fails to extend this inquiry to investigate other complaints about Tony Stewart's behaviour.
“Badly behaving MPs damage the democratic process. Premier Rees must extend the inquiry for the sake of those involved, and to restore confidence in the democratic process,” Ms Rhiannon said.
