New Government reminded that WA does not dig uranium
Anti-uranium campaigners will voice their opposition to the new WA
Government's pro-uranium stance at Parliament House today as the new
Parliament sits for the first time.
"The minority Liberal Government is on shaky ground and must not for a
moment think that it has a mandate to push ahead with uranium mining in
WA," Senator Scott Ludlam, Australian Greens Spokesperson on nuclear
issues said.
Campaigners will attend the first sitting of the new parliament at 1pm
today (Thursday 6 November) to make clear to the new government that
Western Australians do not want uranium mining in their state and will
not sit quietly by if the Government pursues it.
"The government can expect a fight," Senator Ludlam said. "We are ready
to take on this industry in order to ensure that WA's uranium is left in
the ground."
"Nuclear power is obsolete and unnecessary. This is going to be the
solar century, and shackling our economy to the volatile and risky
fortunes of the world nuclear industry is a dramatic backward step."
