Greens MP Lee Rhiannon - Media Release - 27 February 2008
Sartor must rescind Tralee land rezoning and give donations to charity
Greens MP Lee Rhiannon is calling on Planning Minister Frank Sartor to
rescind his decision to rezone Tralee land to residential and give
donations made to the NSW ALP by the developer, Village Building
Company, to charity.
“Mr Sartor is dodging a broadening donations scandal by arguing he
rezoned land for the Tralee development because of housing shortages,”
Ms Rhiannon said.
“Minister Sartor’s own expert panel found in 2006 that there are
‘alternative areas for residential development’ not so adversely
affected by significant aircraft noise.
“Tralee is just one example of how donations are sullying a whole
number of significant planning projects across NSW, from Catherine Hill
Bay to Vincentia and Sandon Point.
“Minister Sartor must sit down with Premier Iemma and argue for the
banning of developer donations or risk his own downfall.
“A wave is starting to engulf the NSW ALP, which for over a decade
has been awash with developer donations.
“The public understands that local communities are being dudded in
favour of Labor’s developer mates.
“The Iemma government can only avoid a deepening scandal by
immediately committing to cease taking developer donations.
“The public is no longer willing to wear a donations system where
money is allowed to influence political decisions to the detriment of
the common good,” Ms Rhiannon said.
