Rudd government fails on equality for same-s*x couples again
 
The Rudd government has failed to remove discrimination against same-s*x couples in legislation introduced to Parliament, said Greens Senator Kerry Nettle.

"Amendments to Aged Care, Social Security, Veterans and Tax legislation identified as discriminatory by HREOC have all been introduced into Parliament by the new government without the discrimination removed.
 
"The Labor party needs to explain this. The gay and lesbian community are right to wonder if Labor are breaking their promises already. 

"Labor went to the election promising to remove all discrimination against same-s*x couples as a priority.
 
"At the next sitting of Parliament, I will move amendments to implement HREOC's recommendations and remove discrimination against same-s*x couples.
 
"I am calling on both the major parties to support The Greens' amendments and ensure equality for all Australians, regardless of their s*xual orientation or gender identity."
