Anti-choice organisations funded at six times the rate of pro-choice
organisations
20.02.08
It was revealed in Senate Estimates today that last year the federal
government gave nearly $1,395,305 million to anti-choice organisations
to provide pregnancy counselling, but only $227,578 to pro-choice
organisations.
"It is appalling that federal funding for pregnancy counselling is given
so generously to anti-choice organisations," said Greens Senator Kerry
Nettle.
"The Rudd government must ensure that pregnancy counselling funding goes
to organisations that provide information on all options and don't have
a particular ideological point of view to push.
"The Greens call on Minister Roxon to commit to ensuring a balanced
distribution of funds to pregnancy counselling organisations.
"The government should only fund organisations that respect a woman's
right to choose."
