Environment off summit as economy rules
The environment has been dropped from Kevin Rudd's summit because it is
too hard to accommodate with the dominant economic viewpoint of the new
government, Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"The buzz word 'sustainability' has replaced environmental stewardship
because it allows for a sustained logging industry, sustained coal and
uranium mining, sustained tollways and no commitment to ensuring the
next generation gets the environmental amenity of this one," Senator
Brown said.
"Population, climate change, and biodiversity each deserve separate
summit headlines," Senator Brown said.
