Rudd's spending advice to pensioners 'irresponsible' - Greens
Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown will hold a press conference in
Hobart today to respond to the Rudd government urging pensioners and low
income earners to spend all of the Christmas bonus at once.
"What the Prime Minister's doing is making it clear that the money is
not really to help the lowest income Australians in a time of financial
crisis, it's to boost the economy and the big end of town," Senator
Brown said. 
"What Mr Rudd should be saying to the pensioners and the carers is
perhaps invest it in some energy efficiency in the household so that you
keep getting a bonus over the months and years ahead," he said.
