Geoff Law: a great campaigner for Tasmania
Geoff Law, with his family, will be able to spend time enjoying
priceless areas of wild and scenic Tasmania which he had the major role
in saving, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"Geoff's contribution to protecting Tasmania is far from over. But he
can be extremely proud of his pivotal role in saving stunning places
like the Tarkine rainforest and vital tall eucalypt forests from the
north Styx Valley to the northern highlands," Senator Brown said.
"His autobiographical work, "The River Runs Free: Exploring & Defending
Tasmania's Wilderness", released earlier this year, underscores his
amazing bushwalking feats and his role in the last decade as the most
outstanding voice for Tasmania's forests at a time of their most
destructive onslaught by the export woodchip juggernaut.
"I first met Geoff in the campaign to save the Franklin River and I have
been greatly honoured by his friendship ever since. As its chief
campaigner in Tasmania he leaves the Wilderness Society admired
nationally and internationally. I wish Geoff and his family great
happiness in whatever he pursues over the decades to come," Senator
Brown said.
