HARTLAND DEFIES GOVERNMENT WITH MORE EDDINGTON MEETINGS
Greens MLC Colleen Hartland will run another two information events about
the government's road proposals, despite a vicious personal attack against
her in Parliament yesterday.
"If the government was giving the community information about these road
proposals, I wouldn't have to," said Colleen Hartland
"The entire government consultation process came and went without a single
piece of information being sent to the residents who live close to the
proposed roads."
"People want to know what the government is proposing. They have a right
to know that there is a new road proposed near their home, so that they
can campaign for the public transport alternative."
"When I ran my first information evening in Footscray, I was overwhelmed
by the response. Now there are local residents groups campaigning in that
area, door knocking on their neighbours houses in West Footscray."
"My next information evening will be in the South Kingsville / Tottenham
area, at South Kingsville Community Centre at 43 Paxton Street South
Kingsville, on 1 September at 7.30pm."
"I'm going to talk about the Eddington Report proposal to widen the
Westgate Freeway, and other proposals that would impact on that area. I
want to give residents the chance to have their say before the government
announces its plans"
"One of the big problems is the lack of detail in the proposals. The
Eddington report says that people's homes will be impacted, and Mr Pakula
has come out in in parliament saying "there may be property acquisitions
required" and in the same breath he acuses me of scaremongering!
"I do wish they'd give people the information they need, put out some
decent maps, so I wouldn't have to do their job for them," said Colleen
Hartland
Residents are welcome to attend the meeting on Monday 1 Sept, 7.30pm,
South Kingsville Community Centre, 43 Paxton Street South Kingsville. RSVP
9689 6373 or colleen.hartland at parliament.vic.gov.au.
Ms Hartland is also planning a meeting in the Deer Park / Caroline Springs
area onThursday 18 September.
